Yoga for Cancer

Jodie is a registered Yoga Alliance Teacher and MindfulnessUK Trained Coach based in Essex.  A corporate solicitor working in the City of London, a cancer diagnosis shifted both perspective on life and career for Jodie.

Yoga for Cancer helps physically and mentally support those who are undergoing or have undergone treatment for cancer. Through movement and breathwork the classes help to alleviate symptoms and side effects such as tiredness, pain, nausea, sleep problems and depression. Current research papers repeatedly highlight that yoga can be a gentle way to help people stay physically active and significantly reduce the stress hormones, such as norepinephrine and adrenaline, which can trigger tumour growth.

Jodie describes her Yoga for Cancer class as a gentle mindful flow of movement and breathwork – a safe environment to help heal the physical body and empower students to recentre, practise self-compassion and adapt to the changes in both body and mind.

Wellbeing Coach & Yoga Teacher

Hi, I’m Jodie.

“Eight years ago, aged 32, I was diagnosed with an aggressive high grade breast cancer. Before this life changing news, I had a successful and thriving career in London as a solicitor.

Being diagnosed with cancer turned my world and my family’s world upside down. While I underwent extensive and emergency treatment over a number of years, it became apparent that significant changes would need to be made in order to get better and to rebuild my life.

As my health gradually returned, and with the support of an incredible employer, I retrained as a yoga and mindfulness teacher. For the past 5 years I have been running mindfulness, relaxation and wellbeing classes for women and men who are undergoing treatment and have completed treatment.  In 2021 I completed a Yoga for Cancer teacher training with Vicky Fox and I now teach yoga to cancer patients at any stage of their diagnosis and beyond.

Yoga was a lifeline for me during treatment – It helped me not only manage the side effects of treatment but reconnect and regain trust with my body as I learnt to navigate a new normal!”
